Ali Onuralp ÜNAL completed his PhD at Ankara University on transportation and housing policies in 2019. In the same year, he was awarded a US Department of State scholarship in the field of transportation. He took part in sustainable transportation projects in Seattle at the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), state transportation authority. During this period, he has completed the leadership program at Georgetown University and took part in state transportation projects with the University of Washington.

Continuing to work on sustainable transportation modes, mobility, micromobility, sharing economy, transportation optimization and urban planning, ÜNAL took charge as a project manager in more than 20 projects carried out by European Union and USTDA fund organizations. In this process, he carried out project studies in cities such as Washington, Brussels, Paris and Barcelona.

He worked as the Ankara Bicycle Lane Project and Ankara Bike Sharing Systems coordinator during the period he worked as the Projects Manager within the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality General Directorate of EGO. During this period, he took part in Ankara Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, Bicycle Master Plan, public transportation optimization and EBRD transportation financing projects.

Ünal teaches Urban Mobility at Bilkent University and continues his post-doctorate studies on sustainable transportation modes at North Carolina State University in the USA.
