Dr. SERTAÇ ERTEN

ARUP, Masterplanning and Urban Design Team Leader

Sertac Erten is the Planning, Masterplanning and Urban Design Leader of Arup Türkiye. She is also the skill leader of Town Planning and Policy in Arup-Europe Region. She is an urban planner with an excellent professional and academic background of 25 years. Her educational background is City and Regional Planning, while she got her MsC and PhD degrees on the field of urban design from METU..

She participated and leaded more than 40 award-winning urban design competitions in Türkiye. She has 18 prizes from urban design competitions, 6 of them are 1st prize. She has a broad experience of planning/urban design consultancies for local governments of Turkish cities.

Moving to Arup after gaining experience from working as the director and the lead designer of 8arti, her own urban design & architecture company for the past 13 years, she got involved in managing and leading large-scale masterplanning and urban design projects and she has become expert in holistic and coordinated provision of urban planning and urban design services, with the holistic and sustainable solutions strategy of Arup.

Her expert areas are design of public spaces, masterplanning, healthy streets approach, integration of UN-Habitat SDGs into urban design and masterplanning projects, pedestrian-oriented sustainable urban mobility, GIS-based urban design, digital planning, active travel. Sertac has more than 10 scientific articles on these topics.

Sertac has been teaching undergraduate courses of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at different universities of Türkiye, for more than 20 years. She is currently an adjunct professor at Yıldız Technical University.

She operated as the local team leader of Cankaya Healthy Streets Project, within the scope of the Global Future Cities Prosperity Fund Program (GFCP) Türkiye, funded by UK-FCDO. She was also co-leader of Ankara GCAP (Green City Action Plan), funded by EBRD.
